Hair Loss is a pathological problem that has two sides to it i.e. cosmetic and medical. It is not just that the follicle has stopped to grow hair but the individual also suffers on account of his or her appearance. Hair loss is not welcome in any individual, be it male or female, a professional or a housewife, young or old.
The hair loss types make it more difficult to manage. There are 40 different type of Hair loss in Men and Women. These range from mild to moderate and to severe.
The most common of them is Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) that affects both men and women. The action of a hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on the scalp hair is responsible for AGA. It is determined genetically and classified as Male Pattern Baldness and Female Pattern Baldness. The males would suffer from a receding hairline on the scalp or the temple and the females would suffer from central thinning of hair and frequent hair fall.
Another type is Telogen Effluvium (Involution Alopecia)wherein the hair follicles go into the resting phaseprematurelydue to stress induced hormones and the quality of hair drops. This is characterised by diffuse thinning of hair and frequent hair loss. The hair loss is induced by severe stress which may be physical, mental or emotional. This type of hair loss in women erupts after childbirth and abortion. In males this happens after severe illness, heart attack and weight change.
Anagen Effluvium is seen when the hair follicles are affected during the anagen or the growing phase. This happens after radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The hair loss is sudden and recovers soon after the therapy. Other forms of hair loss are drug induced, traumatic, traction alopecia, trichotillomania, auto-immune, syphilitic and TineaCapitis.
Hair loss is very much curable. One doesn’t need to take the emotional trauma and the discomfort. There are multiple options starting from medicines, mesotherapy, PRP therapy and hair transplant. Both males and females can see this as a possible solution to their hair problems.
Hair Transplant is an option for an individual who is not relieved with medicines alone. The procedure is simple and is considered less invasive. The surgeon grafts hair follicles on the balding area and the growth is sustained permanently. The new additions on the therapy area have reduced the pain and money involved.
